TMR is the leader in the field of tourism not only in Slovakia but also in Central Europe. The company has business ambitions but also feels responsible for improving the life of local inhabitants and guaranteeing an attractive offer to visitors who come to the Tatras. This was one of several reasons why the company decided to launch the project of the Lomnica promenade. “We would like to liven up the settlements in the Tatras, to revive buildings that have been there as part of history. We want to bring life to the region, make it more attractive. And we are convinced that Tatranská Lomnica deserves to have a main square,” explained František Šoltis, the general manager of the TMR real estate department.
Original studies of the Lomnica promenade that were introduced by the Esin group a few years ago will not be used. A professional TMR project team is currently working on a detailed architectonic study of the whole area. František Šoltis said that they would like the project to meet all needs of the town as well as expectations of the municipal council, the nature protection sector and tourists. “In the first place, we plan to renew existing and slowly decaying constructions which are located near the lower cableway station and the Lomnica promenade. Their position is very interesting and still appealing,” added Mr. Šoltis.
The renovation of the Horec complex has already begun and it was the team of Ing. arch. Peter Marcinko that has breathed new life into the building. Mr. Marcinko stressed that Horec was meant to indicate the character of the new centre which should be established in the area. “I hope the architecture of Horec, although small as for the extent, will be accepted by the general public positively, will indicate the legitimacy of the contemporary architectonic approach in the settlement of Tatranská Lomnica and fulfil the desire for singularity. We would be very happy to see the building become a natural part of the settlement and add something unique to the overall perception of the environment at the same time. Because this is a beautiful country that should not be reshaped. We can only help form it,“ explained the main architect. The Horec suite complex will offer 22 single-storey suites and 4 two-storey penthouses. All suites will be fully furnished, 19 of them will have one bedroom, 7 will feature two bedrooms. Their sizes will range from 41 to 145 m2 including loggias and terraces. The renovation should be finished before the beginning of the 2020/2021 winter season.
The project of the Lomnica promenade is very complicated. “It has to be implemented in several phases. The old Sasanka building located next to Horec should be renewed too. At the moment, we are looking for a partner who would have the ambition to restore the largest and most significant building in the area, i.e. the Slovakia hotel. We are particularly focusing on meeting all legislative conditions related,” concluded František Šoltis.
The promenade of Lomnica should not only result in a new design of old buildings that are slowly dying but also offer room for cultural and tourism-marketing events. It is expected to become the natural centre of Tatranská Lomnica.
