The temperature drop that could be felt in Slovakia last weekend got the snowmaking systems in all Slovak ski resorts of the Tatry Mountain Resorts, a.s. company going. The plan for the biggest ski resort – Jasná is to make snow on the section between Mt Chopok and Biela púť. “If the weather doesn´t complicate it, we will do our best to open at least a part of the route,” said Martin Kupčo, the chief of the snowmaking team.

Snow guns started to operate in the High Tatras too – on Friday 29th November. The chances are best in Štrbské Pleso. “We are making snow on the pistes of Interski, Turistická, Junior and the upper section of Solisko. There is almost 25 cm of snow in some places so we are working hard to launch the ski season next weekend,” said Peter Tomko from the resort of Štrbské Pleso.

The resort of Tatranská Lomnica is busy too. “Snowmaking systems are operating at full drive between Tatranská Lomnica and Skalnaté pleso, most intensively in the area of Čučoriedky. Temperatures reach from -8 to -4°C. At the moment, the changing wind direction is making the snowmaking process more difficult but we are doing our best to be able to open the season in Tatranská Lomnica with the Ski Exclusive Opening on 14.12.,” informed Lukáš Brodanský from the resort of Vysoké Tatry.

Nature has helped only with a temperature drop so far, which means that snow guns could be turned on. Natural snowfall has been very rare recently, there is not more than 2 cm on the ground.

As the beginning of the ski season finally looks promising, mainly thanks to the weather change, skiers who want to witness it shouldn´t hesitate and buy ski passes at the best prices on GOPASS.sk in advance. The online pricing system is flexible, which means it depends on the “supply and demand”. It works the same as when buying flight tickets or hotel accommodation – early booking is rewarded with lower prices. Multiple-day ski passes are offered at great prices too, e.g. a 6-day Štrbské Pleso ski pass costs from EUR 83.
