The ski resort of Jasná Nízke Tatry will keep up to its reputation of a TOP resort this year again and is introducing new products, improvements and significant investments such as a new 15-person cable car on the northern side of Mt. Chopok. Skiers who come to Mt. Chopok from the direction of Banská Bystrica and Brezno will enjoy a much better access to their popular ski resort. Complicated changing between ski lifts or between a chairlift and a cable car is past. The route of the existing 15-person cable car, which operates from the middle of the hill up to its peak, i.e. between Kosodrevina and Mt. Chopok, will be prolonged by a new section between Krupová and Kosodrevina and will thus enable easier transport for visitors who will park in the lower located and easier accessible locality of Krupová. By using two successive 15-person cable car systems, skiers can travel up to the very peak of Mt. Chopok comfortably. The transport capacity of the new 1.2-km long 15-person cable car is 2,800 people/hour. The lower cable car station is located at the altitude of 1,084 metres, the upper one at the altitude of 1,488 metres, the cable car has 9 supporting pylons and surmounts an altitude difference of 404 metres between the station of Krupová and the station of Kosodrevina within 4.83 minutes at the speed of 6.0 metres/second. The construction of the 15-person cable car made by the world-class producer Doppelmayr cost 11.6 million EUR in total and will be operating until December.

The lower station of Krupová will offer refreshment in a new après-ski bar where skiers can warm up themselves while skiing. Snow is guaranteed on Mt. Chopok by a modern snow making system which will cover 3.4 km more on the southern side and 0.9 km more on the northern side of the hill. For more comfort on the interconnected slopes, new snow fences and new safety nets will be added and terrain will be adjusted on steeper sections of the ski piste of Jelení Grúň. Waiting times of cable cars will be displayed at four lower cableway stations on the northern and southern side of Mt. Chopok and a technological innovation in the form of professional SNOWsat software will improve the work of snow grooming machines on the ski slopes in the resort of Jasná Nízke Tatry. This professional slope and fleet management system with snow depth measurement is based on satellite-guided positioning of snow groomers. By doing so, SNOWsat increases the efficiency of the grooming procedure itself and reduces fuel consumption by monitoring the machines. However, in the first place, it saves snow on the slopes because the intelligent programme helps the grooming machines identify where snow is needed to be made or just to be spread to have the required depth. In cooperation with OOCR LIPTOV (regional tourism organisation), the resort keeps improving the quality and scope of the regional ski bus network in order to support the tradition of this form of transport to the resort. Considering the favourable response to the use of shuttle busses during the Women´s World Cup in Jasná this year in March, the resort is ready to offer shuttle bus transport if the overall traffic situation should require so. The new concept of static and dynamic transport will help coordinate the vehicular traffic actively and will be controlled centrally. The central control room of the resort will be evaluating situations in the whole resort that will have to be solved quickly and communicate with clients in the form of a resort radio, information boards, LCD screens, social networks and the www.jasna.sk website.

Safety on the ski slopes has been monitored by ski patrols for several years. This year, the team in Jasná will have 15 members. Besides securing that the resort rules and safety are respected, monitoring the ski slopes, marking of problematic areas and cooperating with the Mountain Rescue Service, the ski patrols will also provide information and organise corridors in selected areas.

Ski touring is becoming a mass sport activity also on ski slopes where non-accepting basic safety rules by ski tourers themselves makes skiing on the slopes much more difficult for regular skiers. From the winter season of 2016/17, the ski resort of Jasná Nízke Tatry will designate special corridors for ski tourers. Two routes (basic – green and more difficult – red) on both sides of Mt. Chopok will be marked 1.5 – 2 metres from the edge of the slopes depending on the respective snow conditions. If there is enough natural snow, they will be designated behind the ski slope edges and separated from the ski pistes by delimitation poles approximately every 25 metres. In order to increase the safety of ski tourers in the context of the overall resort operation and to prevent the groomed ski slopes from being destroyed during the night, ski tourers will be informed and advised also via information boars that will be placed at the beginning of the above mentioned corridors and contain maps of ski touring routes as well as safety instructions. The resort also plans to publish a map of ski touring corridors on Mt. Chopok with markings of individual levels of difficulty. They will be displayed along with instructions for safe ski touring on the resort website and at the beginning of the already mentioned corridors.

The MAXILAND ski school in the area of Biela Púť has prepared a modern skiing aid for small skiers – a tubing merry-go-round called Sunkid Rotondo. This amusing innovation helps children learn keep balance and stability on skis, keep the skis in a stable position and prepares them before using a real ski lift. The concept of the whole ski school is about to undergo a revolution in the form of group lessons with new individual animations and stories. Five days of skiing lessons for the smallest skiers will be full of educational games and stories, the lessons will be longer. This product will be offered to the wide public under very reasonable conditions. The main aim of the MAXILAND ski school in all resorts operated by TMR is to help educate future young skiers with good skiing skills.

Jasná is going to have its own Centre. The first phase of the construction project has begun this year and will result in a new square at the stylish Happy End restaurant. The renovation of Happy End will improve comfort when accessing ticket offices, offer shopping possibilities in a new brand sports shop and increase the capacity of the Happy End restaurant itself, where two floors will be available during winter. The new multipurpose Centre in the heart of Jasná will also feature the reconstructed building of the old post office, which will be changed to a new 4-star boutique Hotel Pošta****. The family of TMR hotels will thus have a new specific ski-in ski-out hotel with personalised services focused on individual wishes of guests. The unique hotel with an intimate atmosphere and an avant-garde and modern design will be located next to the lower station of the Grand Jet Biela Púť cable car and there will be 24 rooms and 14 suites. First-class concierge services will add a touch of exclusivity to the whole facility. For more information, please visit www.hotelposta.sk

The official beginning of the winter season in Jasná, i.e. the popular Winter Music Opening is scheduled for 3rd December and will offer a day-long sports programme and a great music party with top DJs and celebrity guests in the iconic Happy End club.

The ski season is knocking on the door and the mountain resorts in the Tatras have begun their regular technical maintenance. For more information about the operation of individual cableways in Jasná in the near future, please click HERE. Skiers who want to ski for less money in the Tatras have the last chance to buy Smart Season Passes until the end of October.
