He usually rests in the mountains with his family. But this time it was a training camp at the new wellness centre of the Hotel FIS*** with his trainer and other sports colleagues. “Personally I prefer cosy environment for relaxation. High-quality saunas – Finnish, infra or steam are really great after a freezing training outside. I have tried the whirlpool too,” said Michal Martikán. He explained that he used winter months to improve his fitness and strength.

“As I often do cross-country skiing and Štrbské Pleso is the best place in Slovakia for me if the snow-cover is sufficient. A good altitude and a diverse cross-country skiing terrain help me improve my fitness. I like alpine skiing too. When being here in the mountains I usually tour on skis up the slopes of Mt. Solisko. And these skiing experiences count among the best I have ever experienced,” said our best water slalom racer.

He has nice memories related to Štrbské Pleso too: “We had our first winter training camp at the Hotel FIS already in 1995 and have been coming here almost every year ever since. The hotel has a great location. Cross-country skiing, ski touring, alpine skiing – everything is very close. The FIS Hotel is the only one at Štrbské Pleso with its own basketball and football hall, which I use for complementary training, and a great fitness centre popular with a lot of sportsmen from all over the world. I am happy that the hotel is being renovated step by step and I look forward to further trainings and time spent in this beautiful area.”

The new Natural Wellness&Spa centre of the Hotel FIS*** at Štrbské Pleso combines a touch of flawless alpine nature, an atypical hotel architecture and an altitude of 1 347 m. Unique treatments designed for all seasons of the year will spoil even the most demanding clients. For more information visit: http://www.hotelfis.sk/sk/wellness-a-sport/nove-wellnesss
