Bike World Jasná has an unbeatable location over the tree line with a vertical drop of 960 metres and offers downhill possibilities from the altitude of 2,004 metres, various types of tracks and comfortable cable car transport. In 2015, all these attributes should help Mt. Chopok become attractive for all cyclists, not only adrenaline lovers. “The project for 2015 includes expanding and building of new tracks of higher physical and technical difficulty level (downhill II and downhill III), which should attract bikers from Slovakia and all Europe. We plan to build a freeride track for intermediate cyclists named ,Crack it up’. It is going to be 3-4 metres wide and contain various obstacles, smooth banked curves, fun jumps and wooden bridges. Above the lower cable car station in the locality of Záhradky – Priehyba, there is going to be a Slope-style park with technical jumps for beginners but also experienced bikers. And near the lower station of the chairlift Záhradky, the second technical track called Pump-track is going to be added, which should be ideal even for families with children. We estimate the total costs related to the construction of new tracks at 55,000 EUR,“ said Matej Hulej, the director of sports services of Tatry mountain resorts, a.s.

“Mt. Chopok and its natural rugged terrain are ideal for building obstacles. The tracks will be simple and thus appropriate for all cyclists. We plan to use stones, roots, terrain obstacles and bridges. Resistant rocks and the rocky terrain shall be made use of as much as possible when designing contour terrain lines. A new natural drainage system is going to be built to protect the tracks and the surrounding conservation area. Natural ecosystems should be affected minimally, the construction is ecological as we want it to sustain as long as possible. We will try to use the natural terrain as effectively as possible in order to prevent demolition and water erosion,“ said Ján Tekel, the chairman of the civic association SLOMBA and co-designer of the tracks at Bike World Jasná.

Every cyclist who comes to the bike park will have to respect the so called Green Code, i.e. rules of nature protection and safety at the bike park, which were created in cooperation with conservation associations. The bike park is under CCTV surveillance, cyclists must register and confirm with their signature that they agree and will respect the Green Code.

“The Bike World of Jasná is a significant part of the area and another attraction which helps promote the region. That is why we consider this activity a really positive one. The region of Liptov offers more than 700 km of marked cycle routes and bike parks play an important role not only in the cycling community but also for the wide cycling public as they host various significant events. The bike park in the Low Tatras can be found even via a mobile app or on a new interactive map,“ added Petra Šuhajdová, the manager of the Regional tourism organisation of LIPTOV responsible for the destination of Jasná Low Tatras.

The cycling season will be launched at Bike World Jasná in mid June 2015 at a special opening event with a downhill and a race. Bikers will get a chance to improve their technical skills at a Bike camp and show them at the Slovak Downhill Cup or a Bike Marathon combined with an uphill ascent and a downhill.
