The TMR company has bought Muttereralm Bergbahnen, which operates the Muttereralm resort, from Innsbruck Tourist Board (principal shareholder) and the villages of Götzens and Mutters at the price of EUR 3.25 mil. TMR joined a transparent tender regulated by a Swiss consulting company and its offer was evaluated as the best of offers presented by eleven serious candidates from Austria and abroad. The purchase and sale agreement was signed by the parties on 16th December 2020. TMR took over the company on 1st May 2021.
“On the face of it, it doesn’t seem like a huge deal. What’s more, it was concluded when we didn’t have any idea what a catastrophe would the winter season be like and that we would have to be laying off. But from the professional point of view, it is a big commitment that we could complete such an acquisition in Tyrol, the mecca of alpine skiing. We decided to join the resort because of the perspective of its connection with the neighbouring Axamer Lizum resort and a possibility of a potential connection with another glacier in future. However, the whole resort has an interesting potential not only in winter but also in summer. That’s why we want to keep developing it as we declared in Austria. Besides, the acquisition fits in our strategy of expanding GOPASS to other resorts perfectly,” said Igor Rattaj, the TMR Chairman of the Board.
The villages of Götzens and Mutters as well as the Innsbruck Tourist Board decided to sell the resort in order to secure its further development but also due to economic reasons and their unsuccessful efforts to free it of dept, which resulted in favourable conditions of the whole transaction. Very important is that the payment of the next part of the purchase price depends on subsidies of the Innsbruck Tourist Board to the connection between Muttereralm and the neighbouring Axamer Lizum resort (40km of pistes, 10 cable cars and lifts).
The Muttereralm resort is located in a very attractive area only 10 km from the centre of Innsbruck, which hosted Winter Olympics two times in the past. A tram operates there from Innsbruck. The resort offers more than 15 km of ski pistes (700 – 4200-metre long) ideal for beginners as well as more demanding skiers, the Pfriemesköpfel slalom trail, which is very popular with professional teams from all around the world but also perfect conditions for snowboarding and ski touring fans. There are two 8-person cable cars, one 4-seater chairlift, a ski lift and 2 magic carpets for children.
In addition to the winter offer with skiing, sledging and hiking, it is a very attractive summer destination for tourists, climbers and mainly mountain bikers. BikePark Innsbruck offers 17 km of trails of various difficulty levels and a complex infrastructure. The prestigious Crankworx World Tour, which hosts the best riders from all around the world every year, proves its top quality.
