Thanks to low air humidity and freezing temperatures in the mountains during the weekend, 50 snow lances could start to operate on the northern side and 23 lances on the southern side of Mt. Chopok. The weather enabled snowmaking in the upper sections under the summit on the southern side of Mt. Chopok (2,004 metres above sea level) in the direction of Predné Dereše down to the area of Kosodrevina (1,488 m) and from the top on the northern side of Mt. Chopok down to the locality of Luková (1,670 m). Snowmaking machines are planned to be switched on in lower altitudes within the next few hours as well. From Saturday to Sunday, the production of man-made snow began also on the slopes down from Skalnaté Pleso (1,750 m), where there are about 70 machines in full operation. And last but not least, Štrbské Pleso also joined the snowmaking process in early morning hours of Sunday 22nd November – 25 snow guns are active on the slopes of Interski, Furkota and Turistická.
Local Tatra people hope they will be able to get the ski slopes ready for the first skiing day in early December. The ski season of 2015/16 begins on Mt. Chopok with three renewed pistes (no. 2b on the northern side of Mt. Chopok, no. 12a Jelení Grúň and no. 34 a,b,c on the southern side of Mt. Chopok), a new snowmaking system in the locality of Rovná Hoľa – Záhradky and on blue slope no. 2b Májová Priehyba – Jasná, new snow fences in the locality of Rovná Hoľa – Záhradky, new wind fences in the locality of Konský Grúň – Luková and a renewed snow park in the area of Otupné. Snowboarders will love innovations at upper cable car and chairlift stations in the form of comfortable benches. All resorts will be offering a new GOPASS mobile app, which will enable the clients to buy products and services literally with two clicks even when standing in front of turnstiles. Markings on the slopes are planned to be improved, skiers in Jasná will be informed about the waiting times in queues at cableways, the aprés-ski bar in the area of Biela Púť will be expanded and offer more space for entertainment and all lovers of freeride zones will have a possibility to test the functionality of their LVS avalanche search devices in a new LVS checkpoint.
Kids will be taken care of in the High Tatras this winter again as the children´s indoor park of the Chamois Land in Skalnaté Pleso will be offering babysitting while skiing again. Fresh Track is coming to Lomnické sedlo – great morning skiing on perfectly groomed corduroy. Unforgettable moments on the slope with a professional guide will be available every Thursday and Sunday at 7:00am before the cableways start to operate officially.
From Friday 27th November, the Tatra Temple of Ice will be opened in the High Tatras in the area of Hrebienok and the first Advent concert takes place inside the Temple on 29th November. The winter season begins officially in the resort of Jasná Nízke Tatry on 5th December with a traditional Winter Music Opening party in the well-known Happy End music club, this time in Hollywood style.
