The Tatras have been enjoying a beautiful Indian summer ideal for unforgettable experiences. “Tourists can take the old 4-people cable car for the last time and get to Skalnaté Pleso for a special price. Holders of the GOPASS card will get a special autumn 6-euro discount on return tickets,“ said Juraj Chovaňák, brand manager of the High Tatras.

“The 4-people cable car has transported more than 2.7 million people since December,“ said Ján Slamený, director of the cableways in Tatranská Lomnica. He went on that the old cable car operating between Tatranská Lomnica – Štart would operate with 50 cars in the following winter season. The destiny of other dismantled cars and the whole construction is clear. “We will keep some pieces as replacement parts, some of the cars will be removed from service, others will be sent abroad,“ concluded Slamený.

The new cable car operating between Štart and Skalnaté Pleso shall improve the transport even on windy days, help modernise the whole resorts and increase safety and transport capacity from 900 to 2,400 people/hour. And what shall change? The new 15-people cable car will transport tourists to Skalnaté Pleso within 7.07 minutes and surmount a vertical drop of 597 m. 37 new cars shall arrive at the resort within a couple of days. Skiers can also look forward to new slopes – a red-marked one for more confident skiers, called “Esses” and a blue-marked one called “Buková hore Západ”, both with artificial snow. The resort of Štrbské Pleso will offer a new blue-marked slope called “Turistická”. There will be thus 24 kilometres of ski slopes in the High Tatras in total.

As for Štrbské Pleso and Starý Smokovec, the maintenance starts on 4.11.2013 and the last day of operation is Sunday 3rd November.
