The special postage stamp was designed on the occasion of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games by outstanding Slovak illustrator, graphic designer and painter Peter Uchnár, who will be personally present at the christening ceremony. “Creating a postage stamp is always a challenge and especially if it is a theme in the public gaze. Applying a sports motif is difficult not only as for the drawing aspect. The author must adapt his style to the topic but I have managed to link it to my illustrative work. After all, winter sports have always had a fairytale nature,” said P. Uchnár. 200,000 pieces have been issued. Not only collectors but also skiers can buy and send envelopes of the first edition with the unique postage stamps and postmarks of the domicile of Liptovský Mikuláš 1 at the Pošta hotel in Jasná on Friday 19/1/2018. A temporary post office counter and a post box will be set up at the Pošta hotel on the same day. Biathlon will be depicted on each envelope and the postmark contains pictographs of various Olympic sports disciplines. In the 1980s, a post office was built in the location where the present-day Pošta hotel is located. It offered a wide choice of services and was a significant administrative building in the heart of Jasná. A while ago, the “old post office” has been changed to the exclusive Boutique Hotel Pošta, whose concept is based on the original building but with a modern design, a touch of avant-garde and staff that knows all client´s wishes.

The Olympic Oath will be taken to President Andrej Kiska by our sportsmen and the flame of the Slovak Olympic team will be lit at the so called Road Show ceremony in Bratislava on 30/1/2018.
