“Thank you very much for your warm welcome in Slovakia, for the preparation and the whole course of event. I appreciate the standard of this world-class race, you set it really high, which wa also thanks to flawless work of organisers and a high number of volunteers,“ said Ken Read, Chairman of the FIS Youth and Children Committee.

During the championships, the ski resort of Jasná Low Tatras was proud to witness new sports performances, personal victories, team success but mainly a meeting of the best ski racers from all over the world in the category of 25 years of age and under. The event held from 26th February to 5th March 2014 was a lucky one for the current alpine ski world champion, Petra Vlhová, who took gold for Slovakia in women´s slalom. “The championships were successful not only from the point of view of the Slovak Ski Association (SLA) but also the one of FIS, as these were the best prepared and organised junior world ski championships recently. There were 361 racers from 48 countries, the tracks were 100% prepared, people on Mt. Chopok did a great job. We managed to put Slovakia on the map again,“ commented Jana Gantnerová, President of SLA.

We provided our venue so that an event of this kind could be organised in our country. Cooperation with SLA, the potential of the Tatras, investments, the size of slopes, the snow-making system and co-organising of these championships helped us put Jasná back on the map of world-class skiing. I hope foreign countries will consider us also as a country of skiing, which offers great conditions; and that Slovakia will live and breathe skiing. Smooth running of the event, broadcast on RTVS (Slovak National Television) and Eurosport, satisfied sportsmen and management teams, all this is the best investment and advertising for Jasná, which might increase overall interest and the number of visitors coming to the resort,“ concluded Bohuš Hlavatý, CEO of Tatry mountain resorts, a.s.

During the championships, there were 5 lorries needed to transport technology, 400 metres of safety mattresses, 20 km of safety nets, 600 poles and about a tonne of salt from Aquapark Tatralandia for racing tracks. Norway won the most medals, there were even skiers from India or the Caymans on the course. Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway, a bronze medallist from Sochi, became absolute star of the Championships in Jasná – with 2 gold medals in giant slalom and slalom. The team of Austria was the biggest one (40 members), men´s slalom had the highest number of racers on the starting list and there were more than 100 volunteers who were helping on the course, with interpreting, accreditation, accompanying guests etc. Over 10,000 bottles of mineral water were drunk during the event. And the sports hall of Liptov Arena in the area of Aquapark Tatralandia became a storeroom for the highest number of skis. About 2,500 pairs of skis were serviced there.
