“We have checked all championships tracks. Jasná has enough snow and is able to hold a top-class event. I am surprised by the extent of investments that have been made here. I would like to express my full support and wish all the best for the upcoming event,“ said Dominique Petit, technical delegate and adviser for FIS alpine tracks. After approving the snow conditions, Petit suggested how to install nets and other safety measures. “The first lorries with technological equipment and safety mattresses will arrive in Jasná on 18th and 19th February. After that, we will start placing the equipment and mattresses on slopes, installing safety nets along with TV towers and cables for broadcasting. The tracks will prepared and maintained simultaneously in order to provide the highest quality of racing tracks possible,“ said Martin Kupčo from the Slovak Ski Association.

There will be about 600 participants and members of organising teams from 40 countries of the world, including Brasilia, Chile, Canada, New Zealand, Romania, Serbia, Lebanon and the strongest teams from Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, USA and Italy. Slovakia will be represented by several promising racers such as Andreas Žampa, Matej Falát, Martin Bendík and Petra Vlhová, who will come right from Sochi, where the Winter Olympic Games are held these days.

“There is still a chance to be a part of the world championships and become a volunteer if skiing is your passion. Tatra Voluntary Service (TDS) will be helping the organisers with translating, accompanying foreign guests, preparing of ski tracks etc. Those who are interested can apply on www.tos-tds.sk,“ added Matej Turjaník, head of TDS.

The championships of MSJ Jasná are considered also the 75th year of Veľká cena Demänovských jaskýň (Grand prix), which is the oldest ski race in Slovakia. The opening ceremony will be held on 25th February in the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. Individual slalom, giant slalom, super G, super combined and national team races start on 26th February.
