Since the previous weekend, skiers who couldn´t wait to start skiing can enjoy ski slopes with man-made snow only. However, the winter is knocking on the door and resorts expect heavy snowfall very soon. Štrbské Pleso is proud of 40 centimetres of man-made snow and good conditions for skiing on the Interski slope. Snowmaking machines work hard on slopes of Esíčko and Furkota. In the resort of Jasná, there are slopes on both sides of Mt. Chopok that are already open: Biela Púť, Slnečná, Hotelová and Krupová. For more information please visit: http://www.jasna.sk/lanovky-a-zjazdovky/ and http://www.vt.sk/hory-a-dovolenka/novinky/29112013-otvorili-sme-novu-lyziarsku-sezonu/. The resort of Tatranská Lomnica will open its ski gates on 6th December. Snow is being made on ski slopes of Buková hora I., Buková hora západ and Grand slnečná.

A symbolic winter opening that took place on top of Mt. Chopok on Friday 29th November united two significant regions of Slovakia. Representatives of the regions of Liptov and Horehronie, clergymen and representatives of Tatry mountain resorts, a.s. (TMR) lit the highest located Christmas tree (2,004 m) in the iconic Rotunda restaurant. The first skiing in Slovakia started officially in the resort of Štrbské Pleso as low temperatures had enabled to make snow on the Interski slope within a short period of time. There were popular Slovak tennis players who helped to open the ski season: coach Marián Vajda, Ján Krošlák, Miloš Mečíř and his son, Michal Mertiňák, Filip Polášek, Branislav Stankovič and others. It was not only the first skiing but also entertainment and fun that attracted visitors to come to the resort of Jasná Low Tatras on Saturday. A 3-round sports race on the slope was opened by Michaela Ochotská, a TV presenter. The best of 101 participants won a 100-day rental of a luxurious car and was given the car keys by Erika Barkolová, another popular TV presenter. Launching of a new conference centre for 350 people with a unique view of Mt. Chopok was a big event on Saturday. Jan Kraus, a famous Czech TV presenter, the main star of the launching ceremony wished people would come to Jasná not only for conferences but because of the mountains too. “Jan Kraus makes guests in his show speechless and the same applies to our new conference centre with breathtaking views, which make conference speakers speechless too,“ said Michal Krolák, director of TMR hotel segment. The launching ceremony had a rather non-traditional location and atmosphere – on the roof of the conference centre, where a special coffee break was served and Jan Kraus was welcomed by the famous Tatra guy and real sheep. The brand new conference centre hosted TV shooting of two live shows of Jan Kraus and his guests. There was super model Michaela Kocianová, sports commentator Karol Polák, actors Pavel Líška, Gabriela Marcinková, Lukáš Latinák and Martin Durnek with Oliver – a rescue pig. Last weekend, the resort of Jasná was not only a centre of skiing but also a centre of entertainment with Majk Spirit, Tina, Celeste Buckingham and other special guests in the Happy End club.

Very soon, skiers will focus their attention on the High Tatras as slopes in the resort of Tatranská Lomnica are about to be opened in a few days. And a new 15-person cable car will start to operate between mid-station Štart and Skalnaté Pleso (1,751 m above sea level) on 15th December.
