The jubilee 10th year of the Green Chopok event has attracted around hundred volunteers to come to Demänovská dolina (valley) and the area of Krupová. They have come to help although it was Friday. They have walked around Vrbické pleso (tarn), along Lutonský’s trail and also along the trail that runs to the popular outlook tower of Ostredok. “People come here to relax not only in the ski resort, but they use trails in the area, attractions and the infrastructure as well. That’s why we decided to focus this year’s Green Chopok on cleaning such locations because they are important to as too and we want them to be clean and well groomed,” said Martin Kupčo, the ski piste chief in the Jasná resort.

Good news is that the amount of collected rubbish was a bit smaller than in previous years. “On the one hand, new waste bins have been installed by the village along popular trails and tourists are becoming more and more responsible,” summarised Martin Kupčo. In addition to collecting rubbish, the volunteers helped repair damaged handrails along tourist trails and clean drainage furrows. “We would like to thank everybody for their help. Not only those who have come today but also those who helped us in previous years. If we count them together, more than 2,000 volunteers have joined our Green Chopok so far and have helped us collect hundreds of bags of rubbish and plant more than 5,000 trees,” concluded Jiří Trumpeš, the resort general manager.

The event was organised again in cooperation with the Regional tourism organisation – Región Liptov, which among other things, used a subsidy of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic to support it. “We are very happy to see people come to Jasná not only to ski and hike but also to help when it is needed. That’s why this project deserves our support,” said Katarína Šarafínová, the communications manager of OOCR Región Liptov.

Every participant of the Green Chopok event has been offered tasty lunch as a thank-you plus a pine seed in an eco-pot and a 1-day Jasná ski pass.
