“The snowboarding community has been building obstacles on the piste and testing the snow cover of this season for a few days already. We have decided to comply with the wishes of impatient skiers and to open the red piste of Interski for the first testing of this year´s snow. There is 40 cm of snow on the piste with good skiing conditions. The weather forecast for the upcoming period is very promising so we suppose our snow guns will be working nonstop from Sunday. Our aim is to prepare the ski slopes so that the season could begin properly on 3rd December and we would manage to open as many pistes until Christmas as possible. As far as next week is concerned, we will see how many people will be interested in skiing on Saturday and Sunday and we will adapt the operation of the slope of Interski for the following days accordingly,” said Peter Tomko, the head of the ski resort in Štrbské Pleso.
The new cableway of Mostíky will be opened from 8:30am to 03:30pm during the first skiing weekend, Smart Season Passes will be valid as well. 1-day ski passes for all age categories will cost 16.90 EUR at ticket offices and in the www.gopass.sk e-shop. Walking tourists can use the Solisko Expres chairlift, the Bivac restaurant on Mt. Solisko and the Slalom restaurant at the lower station of the Solisko Express chairlift. Details about opened ski slopes in Štrbské Pleso and Tatranská Lomnica will be updated regularly on the resort website www.vt.sk.
The longest ski season in Štrbské Pleso lasted 174 days – from 11/11/2006 to 8/5/2007. In recent years, the ski season began on 18/12 (2010), 3/12 (2011), 2/12 (2012), 7/12 (2013), 30/11 (2014), 6/12 (2015), 5/12 (2016).
The TOP attraction of the winter in the High Tatras – the Tatra Temple of Ice in Hrebienok, which is built of 90 tonnes of ice, is opened to the public for the fourth season, this time from Friday 25th November.
