The figures reflect the period under review from the beginning of the summer season, i.e. from 12th June to 4th September 2016, and are compared to last year´s figures,

“From our point of view, the positive results as for the number of visitors in our mountain resorts, our amusement park and water park are influenced by safety issues in holiday destinations around the world as well as the weather. The beginning of the summer was very warm, the situation changed in mid July and it was much colder in the mountains. Late August brought tropical temperatures back and these helped increase our turnout figures. On colder summer days, which occurred more often than the tropical ones this summer, people were making cableway trips to mountain resorts, on hot days, they preferred Aquapark Tatralandia. The above mentioned paradigm can be also applied to the Polish Silesian Amusement Park, however, opening of a new attraction called Diamond River on 13th August helped attract more people as well,” commented Michal Beňo, the business manager for GOPASS, on the results.

As far as individual nationalities are concerned, visitors of mountain resorts and Tatralandia were dominated by the Slovaks, the Polish and the Czech, whose number increased considerably when compared to last year. The Low and the High Tatras were visited by 68% Slovaks, almost 18% Czech and 7% Polish during the period under review. The fall of the number of Polish tourists was influenced by the worsening exchange rate of the Polish zloty to Euro as well as temporary border controls introduced by Polish authorities due to the visit of the Pope, the summit of NATO and in order to check children´s passes. Once these abnormalities were gone, the number of Polish visitors was similar to last year´s figures. To complete our statistics, an increase of Israeli tourists was recorded. This fact was confirmed also by the hoteliers of TMR in the Tatras who claim to have double as many nights spent by the clients from Israel, which makes 7% of the occupancy rate at TMR hotels.

“The highest occupancy rate was recorded at the hotels in the High and the Low Tatras. There is one difference when comparing the figures with last year – people began to book their summer holidays earlier this season. The number of Slovak clients was the lowest in the history of our nationality statistics. In the period under review /12.6.-4.9./, there were 40% of Slovak, 29% of Czech and 11% of Polish guests at TMR hotels. The number of Czech clients grew significantly – by 37%, in some hotels even by more than 40%. From our point of view, we can evaluate the summer season positively, the summer was strong and our clients were returning to our hotels several times within a short period. If we had to compare the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August, our occupancy rate reached 86%, even more than 90% in some hotels, which is comparable to New Year´s Eve for example,” commented Katarína Lukáčová, the business-marketing director of TMR hotels, on the results.

The Polish resort of SON did not operate in summer.

Autumn usually attracts tourists with steady weather and Indian summer, which promises beautiful views in the Tatras and hiking trips with a lot of sun. Families with children can enjoy traditional Family Days at the upcoming weekend in the Chamois Land of Skalnaté Pleso – with attractive workshops and watching real chamois with a mountain ranger.
