Tatranská Lomnica (4th May 2023) After more than 13 years, the black Cadillac Escallade is leaving the Humno restaurant in the Tatras. The iconic SUV, which was used by Madonna in Prague in 2009 while making a concert tour, should be put up for auction and the proceeds will be used to fix the historic cable car building at the Štart interchange station.
The monumental Cadillac was hanging upside down in Humno over the dance floor. The car made in 2007 and signed by Madonna personally was hung onto a steel structure with help of two cranes in December 2009 after its half-tonne-heavy engine was removed. Then the car was surrounded by wooden walls of the Humno restaurant, which was being built at that time and opened in the summer of 2010.
The hung Cadillac is going to be put up for electronic auction as a collector’s item in the second half of June. The Vysoké Tatry mountain resort plans to use the proceeds to renew the former cable car building at the Štart interchange station. “It’s one of the former cable car buildings designed by architect Dušan Jurkovič. There is the Retro station restaurant now and the building is also used to store seasonal material. We would like to use the proceeds to repair the roof, eaves and other elements that are urgent. The car can make a collector happy and we will make another step to keep the historic building in the best condition possible,” explained Dušan Slavkovský, the general manager of the Vysoké Tatry resort. After the Cadillac leaves, the Kässbohrer grooming machine near the dance floor, which is often used by guest DJs at discos, will be the only vehicle in Humno.
The Cadillac will be replaced with beer tanks as elements of a new interior design and new equipment in Humno. “The renovation of Humno should be finished before the summer tourist season begins. As for the practical side, it will increase the seating capacity, add more comfort, widen the dance floor and bring new modern designer elements,” informed Roman Sedlák, the F&B resort manager.
