MӦLLTALER GLETSCHER (October 17, 2023)The time for skiers has finally come! Temperatures have fallen in Carinthia, which means the Mӧlltaler Gletscher could start with the piste preparation.
The mountain resort on the only glacier in Carinthia has used the favourable weather change and switched its snowmaking system on. The aim is to accumulate more snow to open the autumn skiing season as soon as possible. “We have four snow storage piles which will help us in the piste preparation process considerably. First, would like to open piste no. 3 Schareck and neighbouring piste no. 2. To do so, 5 – 6 days of snowmaking under ideal conditions are required. Piste no. 8 is being covered with snow parallelly. Opening the Panoramabahn chairlift is the highest priority, then we will focus on piste no. 9. If our clients follow our social media and the resort website, they will be the first to know when we open our resort,” informed Max Gottfried, the resort general manager.
It is piste no. 9, which runs from the EISSEE restaurant to the upper station of the Mölltaler Gletscher Express funicular, that the greatest innovation of the 2023/24 ski season is related to. “Rocky terrain was modified in the most critical section so that the piste could be widened by about 15 metres, which has improved the safety and thus the comfort of skiers considerably. Following this change, the popular family piste can now be considered a blue family piste,” added Max Gottfried.
The Mӧlltaler Gletscher resort is very popular with ski teams and national teams in autumn, but there are also some amateur skiers who cannot wait to ski again. It’s mainly Smart Season Pass holders who can launch their ski season in Austria long before the ski resorts in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland are opened. 1-day Mölltaler Gletscher ski passes at the best prices will be available via the gopass.travel portal soon. What’s more, the resort will be included in the Carinthia season ski pass (Kärntner Skipass) offer, which covers more than 30 resorts in Carinthia, in the 23/24 season.
