LIPTOVSKÝ MIKULÁŠ (3.6.2024) The sustainable development of tourism in the attractive region of Liptov has been supported by the TMR company by joining a project of a water company, entrepreneurs and the municipality. The goal is to build basic infrastructure in the area of Rybníčky on the northern bank of the Liptovská Mara reservoir.
This is an important step for further development of the location in the immediate vicinity of Tatralandia – the largest water park in Slovakia and the Liptovská Mara reservoir. It won’t be necessary to remove waste water or build individual treatment plants as all buildings will be connected to public sewerage. The construction will thus significantly contribute to the improvement of the water quality in Liptovská Mara itself. All this was agreed on jointly by Liptovská vodárenská spoločnosť, a.s. (water company), TMR Parks, a.s., Tatry mountain resorts, a.s., JKSK, spol. s r.o. and M.T.M. Slovakia, s.r.o. The expected value of the water supply and sewerage project is approximately EUR 2.5 million.
“The basic infrastructure is the alpha and the omega for the development of tourism. Just as we approached draining Mt Chopok responsibly, aware of the protection of groundwater in the national park, our infrastructure in this case is also the basis for further development of the entire area in accordance with the requirements for sustainability,” informed Igor Rattaj, the Chairman of the Board of TMR a.s. The TMR parks, a.s. company and the Tatry mountain resorts, a.s. company ensure the drinking water supply and wastewater treatment for the Tatralandia water park. To make it more practical, the Rybníčky location will be linked to this water and sewage connection, including the pumping station, all in a length of almost 3 km.
“Thanks to the cooperation of the private sector, the Liptovská vodárenská spoločnosť company and the town, the project, which is important for both Liptov and Liptovský Mikuláš in many ways, will be completed after 20 years. By draining this area, we will prepare the entire tourist-attractive locality with an area of several hundred hectares up to the north-western border of the cadastre area of Liptovský Mikuláš for further development. The water supply and sewerage system in this location will not only improve the quality of life for residents and tourism service providers, but the project’s contribution to the environment is also important as it will reduce the risk of polluting Liptovská Mara with wastewater,” said Ján Blcháč, the Mayor of Liptovský Mikuláš and the Chairman of the Board of the REGION LIPTOV regional tourism organisation.
A valid building permit has already been issued and the construction of this water complex, which includes four buildings, begins by Liptovská vodárenská spoločnosť on 3rd June 2024. The final approval is scheduled for October 2024. “The complex consists of a water supply pipe, a sewage system, a sewage pumping station and a connection. Building a pressure sewer in difficult terrain will be the biggest challenge as there are already other underground utilities. But the effort will not be in vain because this entire infrastructure will be owned by our company once completed and we will also operate it,” said Matej Géci, the managing director of Liptovská vodárenská spoločnosť, a. s., Liptovský Mikuláš.
This type of investment also plays an important role in the sustainable development of tourism in the Liptov region. “The locality is defined as an area important for the development of tourism in the local plan and in addition to recreation, it should also have a direct impact on the creation of new jobs in the tourism industry and represent one of the important sources of income from the point of view of the collected accommodation tax and basically also the real estate tax in the future,” emphasised Darina Bartková, the director of the REGION LIPTOV regional tourism organisation. A new resort is currently being built in the area and should be a real jewel of this place and attract new holidayers later.
“Completing the ecological infrastructure on the banks of the Liptovská Mara reservoir was a great priority for us, our partners and the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. We want our development project to be an example of the fact that modern tourist infrastructure can be in harmony with nature and built in a way to fit into the landscape. We would like to open the Tatra Lake Garden suite wellness resort next year,” said Ján Gemzický, a representative of the JKSK, spol. s r.o. investor.
