The ski season in the mountain resorts of Jasná and Vysoké Tatry ended due to precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 on 13th March. And almost 50 days later, life is coming back to the resorts slowly again – the operator, i.e. the Tatry mountain resorts, a.s. (TMR) company is opening cable cars in the High Tatras and the Low Tatras for walking tourists in a summer mode. As the winter season was finished, transport will be available only to passengers travelling without skis.

“During the compulsory break, we have prepared a complex list of precautionary measures to reduce risks as much as possible. There is a special list for every cable car, funicular and chairlift in order to increase the safety of our customers and the staff. Only passengers with face masks or covered noses and mouths in another way will be allowed to travel, there will be lanes with marked minimum distances in the boarding zones, the transport capacity will be considerably limited, cars and chairs will be disinfected, hand sanitizers will be at disposal for the passengers,” explained Dušan Slavkovský, the general manager of the Vysoké Tatry mountain resort.

“We would like to ask all our customers and passengers to respect all measures in the resorts as well as instructions of our staff because only by acting responsibly together, we can protect our health and offer unforgettable moments and adventures,” added Igor Mráz, the general manager of the Jasná resort.

Tourists and other clients who wish to travel with cable cars can check the opening times and read specific rules regarding safe cable car transport on resort websites. The safest and cheapest way of buying cable car tickets is online through GOPASS.SK at least one day prior to arrival. The cable cars will be operating in the summer mode from 1st May as follows:

VYSOKÉ TATRY (the High Tatras):

– Tatranská Lomnica – Štart – Skalnaté Pleso / opened every day
– Starý Smokovec – Hrebienok / opened every day
– Štrbské Pleso – Solisko /opened at weekends in May

The Lomnický štít cable car is closed for maintenance at the moment but is expected to be available again from 9th May. The chairlift in Lomnické sedlo should start to operate around mid June.
