Snow for the white giants was being piled up already before Christmas but it has taken a while to form it to the desired shape. The family of 4 huge snowmen – mother, father and two children was being built by 6 people. It was the idea of sculptor Adam Bakoš, the author of the Tatra Temple of Ice in Hrebienok. Maximum diameter of the snowmen is 5.5 metres. 175 m3 of man-made snow was used to build the 7-metre-tall creations, which make small skiers standing next to them feel like dwarfs. The snow weighed as much as 33 passenger cars. The family of giants – skiers is expecting a baby and will have a new family member until the end of the winter season.

Snow has finally started to fall and local Tatra people are happy about a fresh natural cover. The resorts in Štrbské Pleso and Tatranská Lomnica are full of keen skiers and offer 65 – 70 cm of snow with very good conditions. Starý Smokovec has 40 cm of snow on two ski slopes on Jakubkové lúky. „We hope a new dose of snow will help us open the longest sledge track from Hrebienok to Starý Smokovec. The steepest ski piste in Lomnické sedlo is getting ready for this year´s premiere as the snow cover is getting thicker and thicker step by step. In order to open this most difficult ski slope, we need at least 1.5 metres of natural snow, which means we are waiting for the announced arctic winter,“ said Juraj Chovaňák, the marketing director of Tatry mountain resorts, a.s.

At the end of the previous year, the ski resorts launched a rich daily aprés-ski programme. For several years, an exclusive dinner at candlelight called Tatra Dinner of Emotions has been offered for all gourmets. Guests are transported in a non-traditional way – with a taxi up a ski slope to the altitude of 1,170 metres to enjoy a 5-course menu. A special grooming machine designed as a means of transport operates to the mid-station of Štart every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Euphoria from the first ride early in the morning before the cableways start to operate officially, i.e. the so called Fresh Track is available on Thursdays and Sundays for all lovers of fresh corduroy and untouched slopes. A day on skis begins with Fresh Track at 7:00am. The unique experience ends with a delicious breakfast in Skalnaté Pleaso. In addition, from 29th January, Hrebienok will be hosting 3-day-long ice sculpting championships – Tatry Ice Master with a rich additional programme. Read more HERE.
