Štrbské Pleso is one of the most popular mountain resorts in Slovakia. In winter, it offers 6 ski pistes and 6 chairlifts and ski lifts. All of them were owned and operated by 1.Tatranská, a.s. since 1995. A new ski piste named Furkota including a snowmaking system and a 6-seater chairlift was added to the winter resort offer in 2009, which increased the resort quality in general, another piste named Turistická including a snow-making system was created in 2013.
In the 2010/11 winter season, 1.Tatranská, a.s. started to cooperate with the TMR company, which was operating the mountain resorts of Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica at that time. After ten years of cooperation, Roman Weck decided to sell the company. “This act is a natural result of me stepping back from the skiing business as I want to devote all my energy to other activities of mine. Štrbské Pleso needs to move forward these days to develop in accordance with expectations of the general public as well as nature protection so that we can be proud of the locality,” said Roman Weck.
“We have been cooperating in Štrbské Pleso for a long time so I consider today´s agreement to be a logical result of our previous achievements in order to integrate the resort into our portfolio in all respects. Among other things, we want to be a fair and constructive partner when discussing the future of Štrbské Pleso especially in times when it is under strict public scrutiny,” commented Igor Rattaj, the TMR Chairman of the Board. Both parties have agreed that the purchase price shall not be published.
