Popular Tatra animals – Karol the Eagle, Pirin the Chamois, Kubo the Bear and Jurko the Marmot will take the children to the best-known places in the High Tatras, which they shouldn´t miss. Every child will get a free brochure to participate in an attractive competition. Children can thus enjoy various adventures with their parents. They will solve the “Lost puzzle of Pirin the Chamois” at Skalnaté pleso, set out for Lomnické sedlo (saddle) to search the “Treasure of Karol the Eagle“, taste the “Pancake adventure of Kubo the Bear” at Tatranská Lomnica, follow “In the footsteps of Tatra animals” from Hrebienok to waterfalls and experience the “Legend of a flower that became the symbol of the Tatras” at Štrbské Pleso.
Children will have a lot of fun with a crossword at the largest apres-ski bar, solve a lost puzzle with help of a GPS navigation or a QR code on a map and set a mysterious cryptex on the peak of Mt. Veľká Lomnická veža. If they answer the questions on boards along the trail to waterfalls properly or find the rest of the story about the Tatras on a map, they can win attractive prizes.
The Tatra Wilderness contains the so called Marmot country – an eco-mini-park at Skalnaté pleso (1,751 m above sea level) with original wooden sculptures, a marmot chalet, various climbing frames and much more. Adults and older kids can learn a lot when walking along the educational trail around the tarn of Skalnaté pleso.
This non-commercial project is very popular with visitors of mountain resorts and attracts about 25,000 children every year. “Every year, there are up to 2,000 children who solve all riddles and take part in the competition during the whole summer. It is the fourth season of a very attractive product we managed to create. It offers entertainment for everybody staying in the mountains and brings the Tatras close to children, teaches them how to behave there. This summer, we are planning to reach the total number of 100,000 children participating in the project,“ said the brand manager Juraj Chovaňák.
The Tatra Wilderness project was initiated by TMR in cooperation with the State Forests of the Tatra National Park (TANAP), Management of TANAP and the Regional Tourism Organisation – Region of the High Tatras.
There is a wide range of other attractions that are prepared for the smallest visitors this summer. Families with children can enjoy great fun with tubing at Hrebienok or boating on the surface of Štrbské pleso (tarn), frolic on a trampoline or try archery in Starý Smokovec. Bike trips offer an ideal way how to discover the Tatra region. There are bike rentals at Tatry Motion shops in Tatranská Lomnica, Starý Smokovci and Štrbské Pleso.
The summer also offers a non-traditional festival of bears at Hrebienok called Bear Days (1.- 4.8.2013) and ends at Štrbské Pleso with a special event called Marmots at Pleso (31.8.-1.9.2013).
