A unique time capsule was brought to the top of Mt. Chopok in June, by two astronauts. This is the last week that messages can be put inside the capsule as it shall be sealed on 28th December and the messages will be preserved for twenty years. All holders of badges with a respective envelope number will be entitled to read their messages in 2033. The symbolic sealing procedure will be in the hands of three significant personalities. The older generation will be represented by the owner of the original Rotunda restaurant, Ján Žiška, the contemporary generation by a promising skier – Adam Žampa and the youngest one by a 6- year-old skier, Zina Antolová, who will be helped by the master of the Tatras – Tatra guy. The 150 kg bronze tube was made by Jozef Mundier, an academic sculptor. Two sides of the cover symbolise the northern and southern side of Mt. Chopok. Each side of the top cover has the year of 2013-2033 embossed and contains motifs of local flora and the guardian of Demänovská Dolina (valley), guardian of the messages – Demian the Dragon. The border consists of three circles. The inner one represents the year divided in 12 parts, each with a respective sign of the Zodiac. The middle circle is formed of 52 weeks with individual moon phases and the outer circle divides the week in 7 days, every day is like a spiral representing a never-ending cycle of day and night. The time capsule will be opened in 20 years by authorised guardians who will take the messages to respective badge holders. The capsule will be placed in the exterior of the Rotunda restaurant next summer. The sealing of the time capsule and the indestructible nature of things in time are closely related. And represented by the refurbished and reopened panorama Rotunda restaurant, which offers 100 seating places, 5 attractive suites and a large outdoor observation terrace with 200 seating places. It will function as an upper cable car station and connect the northern and southern ski slope of the second highest peak of the Low Tatras, Mt. Chopok. In the interior of the restaurant, there will be a unique photo of a star called “nebula IC410”, which was made by the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics, Observers, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This key investment is a rather non-traditional construction as for architecture and is expected to protect tourists on top of Mt. Chopok from bad and windy weather and offer unforgettable views of the scenery of the Western Tatras and the region of Horehronie.
