“We have begun to make snow based on the weather conditions, i.e. above the altitude of 1,500 metres. We are beginning in Skalnaté pleso and going downwards along the pistes of Esíčko and Generál. If the wind is not too strong and it gets colder outside, the plan is to increase the snowmaking capacity and to create an uninterrupted line down to Tatranská Lomnica,” informed Dušan Slavkovský, the general manager of the Vysoké Tatry resort.
Snowmaking has begun in Jasná as well. “Snow is being made in the area of Brhliská and between Priehyba and Luková as the temperatures do not allow us to get lower. We wanted to start also on the southern side of Mt Chopok, but the wind was too strong there. Once the situation gets better, we expect the snowmaking capacity to increase,” said Martin Kupčo, the chief of the ski pistes in Jasná.
Both ski resorts have announced that they would like to welcome the first skiers already on 4th December, however, this depends on the weather conditions and the latest developments. The online advance sale of 1- and multi-day ski passes was launched through the GOPASS internet shop on Wednesday 18th December.
